Lastest News (1/10/2007):

Dear Brethren,

It seems like a short time ago I was saying another year has come and gone. I believe we can all say that time is swiftly passing. It has been a good year for the Church at Lake Street with Roman and his team. Roman had the honor of baptizing his daughter Leoni and his son Daniel this past year.

Lake Street added five new members in 2006. They had two baptisms and three new people placed membership. Dok City added three new members, two baptisms and one new person placed membership. In Odessa where Rusian works three people were baptized and five people were restored. Also, Rusian continues his work in Izmail with the Christians and now has some new Bible Students.

On a sad note Roman's mother Anna passed away. Anna was a lady we all loved and will miss at Lake Street. Anna lived in the Church building and took care of it. We and others, doing mission work in the area stayed at the building with Anna. She cooked, cleaned, washed clothes if needed and even provided home remedies for anyone feeling a bit sick. Anna could not speak English but her smile and hugs were all we needed to know she loved us and I believe she knew how much we loved her. She was a good, hospitable, Christian lady.

Roman's health is better now after his visit to U.S. and doing what the doctor here prescribed for him. Sasha's health is not very good at this time. The dosage of his medicine has been increased which makes him very weak. Please keep both of these good Christian men in your prayers.

As I have said before, on behalf of Roman and his team we thank you for your prayers and support in the Ukraine work. If you have questions please call or write me.

Sincerely,

Doyle Duke`

History of how we became involved:

The Hillsboro congregation has supported the work of Roman Mikhaylov in Donetsk, Ukraine for many years. The Church of Christ at Woodbury, TN oversees this work, which was once lead by the elders here at Hillsboro. Over the years, many trips have been made by Christians from the middle Tennessee area to the Ukraine to strengthen and aid this work. Bill and Peggy Mayberry and Danny Bivins from our congregation have been a part of these trips. Today there is a strong, growing congregation of the church in Donetsk with its own meeting place on Lake Street, the name by which the congregation is known. Christians from this congregation are working in Dok-city and Odessa where congregations have now been established.
